The best of both worlds…
Chimera has a distinct Crying Freeman feel to it. I really still can’t explain why I felt this way when I was watching it. Perhaps it was the action sequences, or maybe the unusual circumstances. It could also be the excitement of forbidden love, or the sense of eternal loneliness. Even so, Chimera has its own brand of unique flavor. Stunning is indeed an apt word to use when illustrating this title’s excellent attributes. The cover synopsis writer wasn’t kidding when it said the plot twists will keep your head turning. They certainly caught me off-guard. Combined with superior artwork and animation, Chimera is definitely have a classic you should have in your hands.
Rei’s story basically has two arcs. The first is when she plots her revenge on the one person that destroyed her family and her life. The second is when she sets out on a new mission. This time, she deals with a man that seeks revenge against her. Both arcs dig deep into the Chimera’s past and what the future holds for her. Very intriguing, if I do say so myself.
A word of caution to some people: If you can’t stand to watch yuri or yaoi elements, this is not the anime for you. This is not for the faint of heart (and loving mothers) either.
