Ladies and gentlemen, I give you…SPORTS HENTAI! Yes, Hentai Wonderland has loads seen stories of rape, bondage, tentacle fests, the occasional half assed fantasy RPG backdrop and even *gasp* romance every now and then. However, sports hentai is somewhat new to me. Angels in the Court scored immediate points with me due to its unique premise. Its subsequent evaluation was only boosted by a genuinely funny and light-hearted story and dialog and by excellent and attractive overall visuals. However, Angels in the Court failed to meet expectations in one department…one word (or a combo word if you will): SOFTCORE.
Because this is, when all is said and done, anime porn, potential buyers of Angels in the Court must first understand they will not be getting a very sexually explicit title. You won’t be seeing all the “tasty” details that uh, well…ah hell, lets just say the camera forgets to focus between the legs. That said, for soft-core, the sex content is actually quite good. Vigorous humping and fondling nicely complement a variety of situations and attractive female partners. Folks, if you’ve ever wondered about the possibilities that those sound proof karaoke singing rooms present, this hentai will give you a few tantalizing ideas.
Speaking of the women, the character designs in Angels of the Court consistently rate high. Characters are cleanly drawn, and attractive right down to the male lead, Coach Motoura. Each of the players has a distinctive look and personality that, while perhaps not deep or multifaceted, at least helps with the notion that they are not there merely for jiggling and moaning. The transfer student especially has an interesting plight…I’ll just say she needs the proper “motivation” to play to her outstanding capability.
My main character complaint would be with Coach Motoura’s sometimes overboard dedication to getting off, which in some instances put the team welfare at risk. That and his rather lecherous relationship with his players bugged me somewhat, but this is after all hentai. In all truth, it’s kinda hard to blame the guy, when he’s surrounded by a team of young (on no!), willing and beautiful girls. Come to think of it, he actually did try to refuse them…for all of three seconds, yes, but it was there nonetheless. What a guy!
To sum up my opinion of Angels in the Court, it was an entertaining romp through the light-hearted side of um…college…girl’s volleyball competition. If you choose to buy it, as long as you are not expecting explicitly detailed sex, you will more likely than not be satisfied. And perhaps, like this reviewer, somewhat envious of ol’ Coach. *sigh* Must change career goals…
