Reading Were-Slut I wasn’t really sure what to expect. My (albeit limited) experiences with English-Language hentai have been a mixed bag. I did enjoy Slut Girl (despite Satoru’s hard-on killing facial expressions) but I haven’t had a great reaction to the others that I’ve read. Still, the premise to Were-Slut enticed me, I mean who doesn’t fantasize about a shy, quiet girl who releases her inhibitions and becomes a cock-craving slut? There’s something about that contrast and the idea that there’s an inner slut in every girl that is just a big turn on. However, what I didn’t expect was how well the concept was handled and what the story evolved into over the 8 issues.
The first issue is simple, it’s a creation story. She takes the pill, changes, has sex, then at the end finds out she needs more. The second story is more of the same, and I was wondering exactly how long they could keep this up. Issue 3 changed everything. Kimiko meets Narumi, a schoolgirl hooker who thinks that Were-Slut is bad for business because she gives sex out for free. Without giving too much away, Kimiko shows Narumi up and also sets the stage for a future “confrontation”.
From that issue on the sex is no longer the focus although it is really well drawn and very hot, it is mostly about Were-Slut doing good in the world using sex. For example, Toru’s brother is in the porn industry but finds that he’s losing his love for sex because the girls are all faking it and he no longer has passion in his life. Kimiko calls upon Were-Slut to give him one night of genuine passion and the result is that he leaves porn to pursue legitimate acting.
The other stories are much in the same vein with Were-Slut/Kimiko giving confidence to a small-dicked man, lessons on how to please a woman to a depressed lothario and even repairing her own relationship with Toru (spending half the day sleeping with other men will strain any relationship). The story does also end in a happy ending making it a good fun read.
Although I’m not familiar with the artist, I did really like the art. You can tell Were-Slut and Kimiko are the same person but at the same time you can tell they’re very different. Were-Slut’s eyes are usually more heavy-lidded and in that “come fuck me look” while Kimiko’s are wide eyed and cute. It really does a good job with the Clark Kent/Superman thing where the disguise is just a pair of glasses but because the characters act and appear so differently you could believe that their close friends may find it difficult to put 2 and 2 together. I’m glad that her breasts remain the same size because it’s an easy mistake to make when drawing slutty characters to enlarge her breasts. By keeping the breasts the same size, it adds to the idea that both are the same girl.
My only beef really is that the sex scenes become more abstract and shorter as the story becomes more plot-oriented. I understand that she’s helping people, but a really hot scene with 2 girls and a double dildo was really only given 2 good panels and that’s a bit disappointing. Other than that, I really enjoyed the series, and it’s the type of story that leaves you feeling good, satisfied and not feeling guilty at watching a young girl turn into a slut because you never get the sense she’s ruining her life and in fact she helps others.
A good read that I highly recommend.
