A most unusual blend of comedy and action >>> skysenshi (09.18.2001)
I like! I like! I like!
I must admit this is the first time I've been exposed to humor such as I have seen in Bakuen Campus Guardress . When the battle scenes -- and there are plenty of battle scenes ala Fatal Fury to whet the insatiable action fan's appetite -- get steamy and tough, suddenly somebody does something goofy. I'm not talking about Ranma or Inu Yasha goofy. I'm talking about something unexpected kind of goofy. Just when you think they're getting serious and tough as Street Fighters, you'll find out that some of the characters are expert con artists. You think they can come out with a tearjerking, heartrending spiel, the way SailorMoon does when she wishes to make peace with an enemy? Think again!
The most memorable characters that made this title worthwhile for me were Chiryuu and his perverted sense of propriety. There's also Kazuma ( kawaii!!! ) who's openly in love with Hazumi. Most importantly, there's Hazumi and Takumi who made me wish I were back in school again so I can experience the bittersweet taste of first love. These two have that thrilling kind of romance that doesn't kill you with mush. What I like about them is that they don't spend the entire series plastered on each other's lips (or repeatedly calling each other's name) like some bishoujo anime lovebirds I can mention.
I love the ending, which is very rare, considering many of my favorite anime don't have "proper" conclusions. This one... well, let's just say it ended with a bang.
