Wonderfully good space adventure>>> by firesenshi
First lesson in anime: thou shalt not judge by art. It's the same with Slayers and I thought I'd never enjoy it. Looking at the art of this one which as the same as Slayers (same production), this only means that we should give this a chance. Now, Lost Universe is by far does not lack humor. I think it's one of their trademarks. And by that, you will not be bored. The story is not only about 'high tech' space battles wherein you hear only the techy stuff of battle stations or what-not. Sometimes Kain gets in trouble with Millie and Canal in their spaceship, the ice just breaks. Speaking about that, the characterization is the best part here. I actually think the lead character Kain, with his cape and sword, is just cool drawn in big-eyed less-detailed Slayer type of art. His story here is what I wish to see the most because just like any good lead character, bits of his background are best revealed each space adventure. I don't know why Millie, despite her gun-prowess, irritates me and for the first time, I am one with the world to love the ruffle-dressed Canal, voiced none other by top seiyuu Megumi Hayashibara. Don't be deceived by the ruffles. Canal isn't all innocent and sweet-looking. The secrets about her character intrigue me most of all. Come to think of it, although the art here isn't as good as Angel Links, an anime that belong in the same genre, this has a better storyline and characterizaton overall. You should get this. No silly swords coming out of the chest, don't worry. Just well... puff and ruffles. |
