============================================ PARASITE EVE BOSS GUIDE: FOCUS-&-DODGE version 2.0 by Skysenshi http://www.coolay.com ============================================ ======================== I. INTRODUCTION ======================== Before I begin listing down all the bosses, there is one technique that I've used commonly with the bosses here. I call that the FOCUS-AND-DODGE technique. I use this with a lot of the slimy regular enemies, so it isn't at all hard to do. What I do here is stay put in one place until the boss or whatever enemy focuses on Aya. They'll signal when they're ready to use their special attacks. You'll know this when they suddenly stay still (sometimes they'd start twitching in their places). When this happens, get away from your stationary position. Once they attack, they will be easy to dodge and you can safely shoot away. This technique is also quite effective with those regular enemies that attack you in groups of three to five or more. You let all of them focus on you and they'll try to attack you in your current spot, but you'll run away after they focus leaving only the air for them and you catch them in their vulnerable positions. If you have the burst attack, so much the better because once they try to gang up on you, you can run away and see that they have bunched up. All you have to do is shoot strategically at the middle, where you know they rest will all be affected. ======================== II. THE NORMAL BOSSES ======================== DAY 1 Eve (First Encounter) Focus-and-dodge, then hit her away with either your bullets or the club. You can finish this round off without getting hit. Eve (Second Encounter) Focus-and-dodge, but this time stay between the two lasers that she shoots. Or you can also choose to run away from it. Sewer Lizard Focus-and-dodge. Your first target should be the tail 'cause it's the easier one to defeat and it really has annoying attacks (pretty easy but annoying all the same). One good strategy here is to run to a place behind him after he has focused on you. He's vulnerable in that spot, but don't get too near. Continue doing this until you have killed both the head and the tail. DAY 2 Giant Worms There are four of them that pop from the ground. What you need to do here is to conserve ammo by hitting only those that have just come up, because you will lose your targets once they try to go back down. Focus-and-dodge. The thing I did was I only concentrated on the worms on the lower left, so I didn't have to waste so much time running around. These critters go bigger everytime you successfully kill one of them and the last one attacks using it's body too. Just keep on the focus-and-dodge technique. Eve (Third Encounter) This is easier than those other easy battles you've just fought. She flies up and do some laser attacks. Observe her shadow carefully so you'll know where she'll drop by next and you'll know where her attacks will also drop by. Try to get as far away from her as possible when she's down. Apply focus-and-dodge technique all throughout the battle. DAY 3 Three Headed Shiva You'll be at the NYPD and most of your friends will be wiped out. Also, one of the best police dogs in the department, Shiva, gets mutated (*sniff* ;_;) She will turn into a three headed ugly giant dog. There are some laser attacks are fairly easy to use the focus-and-dodge technique on. But there is one attack that's a little more challenging to dodge. So what I did was to use the PE Barrier first just in case the purple whole-screen attack hit me. Anyways, since there are three heads you can kill the center 'cause that's the one that annoyingly heals its partners. Then you can do in the right head 'cause it's the weakest. Some people would do the right head first, but that's a matter of choice. It could be easier for you. Actually, you can die with the spiders in the NYPD, but this boss is easy. If you want to conserve ammo, PE Barrier and the PE Energy Shot will definitely do her in. Poor Shiva ;_; DAY 4 Giant Spider Focus-and-dodge. But I think it's better to run TO him instead of running far away FROM him. 'Cause then you won't miss and waste a lot of your bullets. Plus your bullets hurt more if you're nearer to him. But not too near, of course. One thing that killed me here, though, was when I was looking for the exit and the building exploded when I still haven't found it. Anyways, all you have to do is run to the lower left and climb off the ledge (side of the building). DAY 5 Centipede This boss can be found in the Sewers 2, below China Town. In the first part, he's still whole. Stay near the area of his tail, (you'll know where it is). Move with him and shoot. The second part is where he divides into four parts. They rotate around 4 to 5 times and then they will attack. Count the number of times they rotate and prepare to dodge. Remember their positions so that you can kill them one by one (and so you'll remember which portion you had already previously shot). Giant Crab This is in the optional location, the Warehouse. He is easy. All you have to do is stay at his sides, though not to close because he will claw you. Staying at his sides will make you safe from his bubbles, but not necessarily from the eye lasers that move around. There is an open area where you could stay (still at his side) without getting hit by these lasers. Take out the claws first, then proceed to concentrate on the head. MUSEUM PRE-HISTORIC SLIMERS: Note, I think it's better not to use any walkthroughs for this one because you'll definitely develop your character faster, as in get from level 33 to level 36 because the enemies here give high experience points. Ceratops He shoots laser beams that go around. Stay in the middle near his mouth 'cause those beams won't hit you there. Aside from that, all I can say is focus-and-dodge, especially after his horns (or entire head) gets obliterated. If you already have the PE Liberate, this'll make the battle easier. T-Rex PE Liberate makes the battle easier with this, but one thing that's extremely annoying with Liberate is that you get dizzy after using it and you lose some precious log time. Now, use the focus-and-dodge technique and then run behind the giant critter, where he is most vulnerable and shoot. Eve The technique is still focus-and-dodge, especially when she goes up and tries to hit you with an electric arrow of some sort. When she does this, try to get to the other side of the screen where the arrow's waves can't hit you. Don't be too far away from her, but don't be too close either 'cause she can pick you up and drain your HP to 1. She's pretty easy and you can get rid of her without sweating. DAY 6 Eve's Baby This one has 4 forms. The first one is a wimp. Just focus-and-dodge, and he'll be out in no time. The second form has lasers where you can stay in the middle of while you're moving with them (so as you don't get hit). He also has fireballs that you can focus-and dodge. You'll know when he's gonna fire balls when he seems to collect purple energy of some sort before firing. Alternate your bullets on both targets. The third form is a split-up of the second form and is really annoying. By this time I already have the double-command equipped so I was able to waste them easily. The one that stays at the ground is really annoying, but it's easier to get rid of the one that's flying first. I saved the PE Liberate for the fourth form. The fourth form fires purple balls, too. All you have to do is wait till he releases them then run toward him. When they fade, shoot. Don't stay too close 'cause he has a pick-up-Aya-and-drain-HP-to-one move. The fifth form has tough armor and you only do a 1 to 2 HP damage. Just keep firing, but also make sure that you're dodging those firefly-like minions of his. After you get in at least 15 HP damage, Maeda will throw you speciall ammo with Aya's cells and you'll do a 999 hit damage. Pretty simple, ne? Now after defeating this critter and after blowing up the entire ship, you're ready to tackle the EX Mode bosses. They're all wimps, especially as you already have a powerful gun and armor (you did have them engraved, didn't you?) You'll actually just be repeating all these bosses plus the ones on the Chrysler Building. Having a double-command feature on your gun helps a lot. 'Cause what I did was to fire the first three shots then I pushed the triangle button so the second command was to use a PE Liberate spell on the bosses. ======================== III. EX MODE BOSSES ======================== Same bosses, but this time they're easier. So I'll just be discussing the Chrysler Building bosses. The first 4 bosses are a tad redundant, if you ask me, so I'll give more details on the last 4. 10th Floor - Giant Spider You've already battled this twice before (remember the hospital scenes?) Do the same technique that you did previously. 20th Floor - Twin Giant Lizards 2 lizards similar to the boss that you battled in the first sewer encounter. But they're easier now. A few shots off your gun should do them in. 30th Floor - Centipede Same one that you fought in the subway. Just remember that they rotate around 4 to 5 times before they hit. 40th Floor - Ceratops Same technique you did at the Museum. 50th Floor - Birthing Fly On my first encounter with this one (before I decided to find out if the rumor about the junks is true), it laid eggs around 3 times before I was able to defeat it. The second time around, I unloaded my first three bullets for the first command, then gave it a dose of my PE Liberate. 2 or 3 more shots and it didn't even get to the point of reproducing itself. The thing is, if it lays an egg the new fly will grow to become like the one you're trying to kill. The process is said to go on forever if you find it difficult to kill. 60th Floor - Giant Crab Same as the first giant crab at the Warehouse, except this time it's a lot faster, so much so that you might need to use PE Haste just to be able to stay at its sides. The bubble attacks are quite painful this time. If you don't want to use Haste because you want to conserve PE, I suggest you look closely at the bubbles. You will notice some sort of a blind spot in which you can stay before you try to run to the sides (just to let the bubbles pass). As with the first crab, remove the claws first then work on the head. This should be easy. 70th Floor - Giant Termite (?) Cockroach (?) Heck I still don't know what it is! It's kinda hard to tell how I killed this vermin 'cause everything was a blur. All I know is that I already had the triple command feature on my gun. The first two commands (6 bullets) I unloaded on him, then the final command was given to my PE Liberate spell. After recovering from the nausea I ran at the sides, directly horizontal of him, 'cause then his super boomerang wouldn't reach me. After my next turn, I noticed that my PE meter was so fast (even my sisters were amazed at the speed), I was able to unload again 6 bullets then the final turn was a PE Liberate (which killed it). Oh, I was level 61, btw, so it might explain why I only spent 2 Medicine 4's and never wasted a single revive (toldya my weapon was idiot proof). I do have a suggestion, though. I think it would be better if I had not used the PE Liberate for my final attack because the next battle was already for Eve. I knew I could kill that critter with my bullets alone anyway. Remember, after using the PE Liberate, your PE is down to zero again. What I did, though, was I went back to Central Park to look for animals to shoot down, while at the same time giving my PE time to recover before going to Eve. If your PE hasn't recovered yet and you have the Counterattack and Burst feature on your gun, try not to get hit even if there's only 0 damage. Your counterattack will definitely kick in and your burst will get all of those animals killed quickly. Just run around like a headless chicken and when your PE meter is full, shoot. Nothing to it. TOP OF CHRYSLER - EVE's FINAL BATTLE There's a major spoiler here if I tell the whole story, so I won't. All I could say is that Aya appears to have a twin here 'cause Eve's original form is a permanent version of Aya's PE Liberate. Anyways, what I did is unload six of my bullets for the first two commands, then Liberate. I think it's better if you have a double-command gun than a triple-command (like mine) 'cause you have more control of the bullets you dish out. While yeah, you can control the third command by using the square button to cancel, sometimes you don't know when you should cancel. Once in a while Eve calls her Little Angel, and when this Little Angel is onscreen it's better to not hit Eve because the Angel will heal Eve. Each healing increases by the thousand. So if you didn't have control of your third command, you might accidentally hit Eve while Angel is onscreen. But that didn't matter to me, though, 'cause even when the Angel healed Eve for 3,000 each bullet of mine cost around 350-375 hit points (if you multiply that by nine, I still win ^^) and my PE Liberate cost 468 hit points per turn (multiplied by 7 again, so I win again ^^) The first time I fought this battle, I was able to defeat her without getting any status ailment of some sort. The status ailment is given by Eve's Angel, so be careful. The second time I fought, the stiffness/paralyze status attack kicked in. But not to worry, if your status is more or less equal to mine, your status will recover within two seconds. What I noticed with this status, though, the stiffness she gave was the kind that unables Aya to move from, unlike her place with the normal enemies, Aya can still move but with a lot of difficulty. Anyways... Eve will disappear all of a sudden and attack you the way your PE Liberate does, except time doesn't stop when she does that and she doesn't do that 7 times like you do. Only, she doesn't get nauseaus. So I think that's fair. She also has this attack that's quite similar to the energy shot, except she moves toward you (making you the target and her body the weapon). I tried the focus-&-dodge technique here, but it seems Eve takes a long while before she could focus on you. Anyway, after she does this attack she'd get nauseaus (FINALLY!) and I could say it was safe for me to finish all my nine bullets (3-commands) on her before she started getting mean again. Okay, so I was surprised that she got killed that quickly, after all those scary tales I heard about her (Did you know that for almost a year, I didn't touch PE because I was afraid--um, aside from the fact that my PSX broke down, of course ^^ I was already at the 30th Floor then, when I stopped playing.) Now thank yourself. Imagine, you were able to climb all those floors, plus battled all those prehistoric critters at the Museum all in one day? (That was Day 5, you didn't get to Day 6 if you got the real ending). ======================== IV. THE ENDING ======================== Nothing, just a comment. I thought the first ending had more impact than the EX Mode's ending, though, probably because there was more FMV sequences. But, like I said, I'll try not to spoil you. I'll just say that the mitochondria problem within Aya was resolved. The ending songs were different, though, but that's all I will say. ======================== V.
