Playing guessing game...
Despite the repetitive sexual litanies that define Star Ballz
(Quote: "Oh, yeah! Harder. More. Give it to me...Is that
all you can do?" Repeat Refrain), I must admit I had
fun trying to guess which movies, music videos, music artists,
cartoons and commercials were being parodied. Let's see... Among
the movies/shows there were Beavis and Butthead, South Park, X-Men,
Entrapment, Basic Instinct, You've Got Mail, Mission Impossible,
The 6th Sense, Meet the Parents, Saving Private Ryan, Dumb and
Dumber etc. Some music videos covered were Eminem's "Stan",
Madonna's "Music", and Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me".
Just looking at this list, who wouldn't be curious as to what
Star Ballz is all about?
The creators, MMG, who were the brains behind SailorMoon
X and the 7 Dragonballz, sure know a good long-term investment
when they see one. Why, they also made it a point to poke fun
at real-life characters such as Monica Lewinsky, Bill Clinton,
and George Lucas. There were many other sequences that made this
animated feature seem like Scary Movie, but of course I'm not
naming them all here so you can have fun identifying them on your
own. Play the same game I did!
Comparing this to Sailor and the
7 Dragonballz, there wasn't much improvement in the humor
or in the hentai scenes. In fact, I think SailorMoon
X is funnier in many aspects. The added spice in Star Ballz,
however, must have come from the graphics rendered in 3D CG and
the added fluidity of the otherwise South Park-y animation. The
main stars of the show, is of course, Goku (Dragon Ball) as Wank
Solo and SailorMoon as the super insatiable (a.k.a. horny) princess.
Everybody loves these two anime icons, so it's quite predictable
that Star Ballz will most likely have a cult following.
A little fact: George Lucas sued MMG for "debasing"
his works and partly for making a slightly perverted animated
characterization of Lucas himself. This is a bit strange for MMG,
though. They've already parodied just about every popular entertainment
media known to Americans, but it was only Lucas who actually cried
out in outrage. This is quite an interesting development and I'm
pretty sure fans of Lucas and MMG alike will hang on to every
news that might come out of this heated legal battle.
