What is Hana Yori Dango?
Hana Yori Dango is a 51-episode series by Yoko Kamio, which was aired in 1996 and is serialized in shoujo magazine Margaret.It is the story of Tsukushi Makino, a poor girl studying in the prestigious Eitoku Academy, a private school for rich kids. Because Tsukushi went against its leader, Tsukasa Domyouji, she waged war against them.
What happens next is a Cinderella-story plot with lots of comedic and endearing twists. And as is the soap-opera formula of every shoujo anime, Hana Yori Dango isn't without love triangles (even polygons), funny situations and heartwarming moments. Hana Yori Dango is a pun from the saying, "Dumplings before Flowers." But they changed the kanji of "dan" as that of "danji" which means boys. So it means, "Boys before Flowers."
