Bleach is good for bonding moments... >>> by skysenshi

Yes folks, it was the opening song that got me into buying Shin Cutey Honey. I first heard it being sung by Animetal back when I was in college and have been obsessing over it since. It probably has the most perverted lyrics I've ever heard in a non-hentai (or is it actually non-hentai???) anime but the beat is so addicting I can't shake it off my memory. I don't like Hitomi's nasal rendition of it, though, but this is the version being played in this feature.

Shin Cutey Honey is actually an adult-oriented OAV that spun off two decades after the success of the original Cutey Honey. The first was animated way back in 1973 and since I wasn't born till four years later, I don't think I'll be able to find this classic unless some kind soul prays for me. Hence, I contented myself with the OAV. I must issue a warning, though. While SCH looks almost exactly like the 1970s CH, SCH is a booby show. Extremely booby. It's actually embarrassing to watch, considering it's not quite hentai. The transformation sequences are so graphic and leaves almost nothing to the imagination. The good thing about this though, is that unlike most magical girl shows, SCH's henshin scenes are not repetitive. They don't seem to recycle animation frames, which for me is amazing.

Now for the plot. Well, it's a bit jumpy as there were only 8 episodes and you don't quite understand what's happening to the rest of the characters after they defeat the mastermind of ultimate evil. Nevertheless, the characters themselves are very interesting, especially the ultra hottie mom Daiko, who has had quite a colorful...err...high school life. The only downside is that they don't get to be developed much. Good thing the humor can keep you awake and glued to your seats -- that is, if the booby action hasn't done it for you already.
